Sugar Freak – OoooooWeeee!

by ST

I’m a foodie…simple. I love food. I also love a good drink. Mojitos are my favorite – I know I’ve said that before but they’re so good:

I was introduced to Sugar Freak, a Creole restaurant, by a co-worker of mine when we went there to celebrate her birthday. The food was delish and they had a drink that was so good (heyyyyy Southern Margarita) but I did not get an opportunity to indulge in their food again until almost 4 years later due to the pandemic. I got the chance to go back recently and they…did…not…disappoint!!! I had the beignet sliders, the gumbo (which came with a side of potato salad and proved itself to be a PERFECT side for this dish) and for desert I had beignets with bananas foster cream sauce. Here are some pictures of the food:

It’s not a place with a lot of indoor space so it can get crowded quickly; I saw the height of the crowd happen around 1:00pm-3:00pm. After that, the crowd tapered off and the vibe was super chill. Crowd or no crowd the customer service was great, which is always the determining factor for me. If you’re looking for a place with great food and drinks and you’re in the Astoria neighborhood, give Sugar Freak a try and let me know how you liked it in the comments!
