Pig Beach Brooklyn – I Bid Adieu (for now)

by ST

Have you ever wanted to go out to eat with the family and it’s just been difficult to tick off all of the boxes on your list:

Is the food good?

Is the food affordable?

Is it family friendly?

Can a mama get a good drink?

Pig Beach BBQ, whose flagship location is located in Gowanus checked all of these off. They serve some of the best BBQ I’ve tasted, which means a lot because I’ve been around. I went there for the first time in June 2022 and since my first time I’ve been a frequent attendee. It really took too long to write this post because unfortunately this location’s last day is today!!! Why, you ask? Well, it definitely has nothing to do with a lack of business (I went there yesterday and it was PACKED!). Their closure is due to nothing short of the property being sold as part of a rezoning project (read more here). I mean, come on!!! This is not only happening to them but a lot of the other businesses in the area. *sign* Before I digress let me pull myself back. Pig Beach’s story is far from over. The good news is that they have an Astoria location that will continue to be open. For that reason, I’ll take the time to post this and answer the questions I wrote above:

Is the food good? Not only is the food good, it’s soooo good. The menus at the Brooklyn and Astoria locations are similar so if you get a chance to make it out there (please do) try their chicken sandwich, collard greens, macaroni and cheese or their baby back ribs!

Is the food affordable? Yes! With the way these food prices are set up nowadays I can say that this place is affordable. You can get a small mac and cheese for $7 and they’ve oftentimes had specials on their menu, like chicken tidbits for $7.

Is it family-friendly? YES! This is honestly the main reason I visited Pig Beach so often. You know that uncomfy feeling you might get sometimes when you’re in a restaurant and your kids are a bit loud? You’re either thinking “oh God I hope they don’t get too loud” or “nobody better say anything to me or else it’ll be a wrap?” Yeah, you don’t have to worry about that here. It is so family friendly, with children running around and dogs thrown up in the mix! Yes…dog-friendly! Also, there were also so many things I was put onto by other mamas coming here, like this portable high chair; we all know the feeling of asking for a high chair and inspecting the high chair provided only to be surely disappointed lol. All in all, the family friendly-feeling was really unmatched.

Can a mama get a drink? Oh yes, a mama can! Ok, so I’m a mojito gal. On the first visit here, I asked the bartender to make me a coconut mojito. And although they didn’t usually make it, he tried his best to deliver…man, did he deliver! Every time I went there afterwards I looked for him and he always perfected a coconut mojito. They also had a variety of cocktail options like Burnt Ends and the Pig and Stormy.

Although the Gowanus location is closing tonight, they are currently shopping around for another Brooklyn location…sweet victory! Until then Brooklynites, please visit the Astoria location and have a dope time. For all of the work us parents do we deserve an affordable, accommodating experience. If you are in the Gowanus area today and are looking for something to do, make sure you visit Pig Beach to bid them adieu (for now). All drinks are $5 and the food is hella good.

Until next time, Pig Beach BBQ, take good care 🙂
