I love this book? Why? Well, first off my daughters and I are legit bonnet users. Secondly and probably more significant than the first point, books like this help girls (and women) appreciate their hair and hair maintenance in all forms. In this book, you get a look at different types of hair – from dreads to curls and from using stocking caps to bonnets and handkerchiefs. As it states on the inside sleeve of the book “it’s just as important as brushing my teeth; my daughters have 4c, low porosity hair so that quote about bonnets is TRUTH! It really reminds (and teaches) us just how extensive and expansive Black hair care is. The illustrations by Nneka Myers are spot on – the hair clips and bubbles found throughout the story in the pictures brought back memories to when I was a child. It’s such a great bedtime story and I highly recommend it as a celebration of culture.
