Fire & Oak Jersey City

My first food and drinks review is an American restaurant in Jersey City called Fire and Oak; it is located in Newport Centre. I stumbled on it doing a Google search for restaurants to go to during Mother’s Day (which was wishful thinking). Seeing that the restaurant had good ratings, I called and tried to make reservations. Of course they were booked so I made plans to go there a couple of weeks later for brunch.

The fam and I drove there; it took about 30 minutes from South Brooklyn, and we got there 11:00am on the dot! I’m still very cautious when eating out due to the pandemic so I usually aim for getting someplace rather early to avoid an uncomfortable crowd. We spent close to two hours there and it was ultimately a good experience; so good that we’ve gone there again since. Since this is a food and drink post, let’s get right in what we got.

  1. We started the meal with some appetizers. Note: every time I go somewhere and they have calamari on the menu, I’m getting it. Don’t ask me why, I’m not sure why, I just know that I do. This calamari was very good and came with chili sauce. We also got some truffle fries because…I mean, c’mon…truffle fries!

2. Next, we ordered some drinks. Note: I actually ordered the drinks before the appetizers but I did NOT want to admit that…kinda like, how I’m admitting it right now smh. I ordered a cocktail called Cucumber Margarita. One thing that grinds my gears is getting a drink that’s watered down and doused in syrup. If I’m getting a drink during brunch I want it to be a drink. This cocktail was a drink. It wasn’t too strong but it definitely wasn’t week and the cucumber and cilantro flavors balanced each other so well!

3. We then got our entrees. As a girl who loves brunch, I went for the staple chicken and waffles. My husband got the steak frites, we got pancakes for the girls and we also got almond crusted French toast for the table…

Taking a moment to drool, excuse me

All in all, the food was very good. My experience there was a positive one and the customer service was also very good (the waitress was super nice and patient as my daughters continuously requested pineapple and cranberry juice). If you are in the New Jersey area and are looking for American cuisine, good food and are accommodating to parents, please visit!
